Peach in the Big City

New York City?!

Ah, New York City. The gritty and romantic symbol of American life for the rest of the world.

Is it?

I honestly wouldn’t know, because…

…I’ve never been to New York!

The airport? Yeah, I’ve been there. Newark and JFK. That’s it, though. I haven’t even seen the Statue of Liberty through an airplane window.

I am so freaking excited!

How did this happen?

The grand Huzzy sold some stuff and won some tickets to a grand LIVE EVENT of some sort in the big city. He asked me to come along. That’s just super, since I may have wrung his tough little neck if I wasn’t asked. Things kind of snowballed on him, though. It’s not just me on this grand tour. It’s the kids, too.

(Serious lack of available family up in here, folks. Vacations occurring every which way)

So sometime in October, the family will be packing up, boarding a train (I simply adore traveling by train – but only if there’s a sleeper car involved), and heading to the Big Apple.

Here’s where I need your help

The Huzzy will be busy with the rich, happy and hot women part of the time. I have no problems with that, but I don’t want it to stop me from living out my childhood dreams on this vacation. I’ve purchased applicable study guides. Like this, and this, and this one here.

Besides someone telling me that these are ridiculous purchases, I need a few things from folks that know and love New York City:

Keeping in mind the presence of children in tow (but NOT disregarding the desires of a thirty-something, wannabe-chic Mama), please tell me:

• Your favorite place to eat – think: inexpensive, hole-in-the-wall, classic, been around forever, must-have, New York. Chains be darned. Someone better mention pizza.
• Must-see place for this Southern tourist – monument? library? museum? park? a particular street? part of town? vintage clothing shop?
• Something unique and cool for the 5 & 6 (almost 7) year old girls. -Please remember inexpensive. Free is better.

Multiple picks for each item are acceptable. We will be there nearly a week!
